Insurance Verification

New boat owners, as well as experienced yachters with new policies,are often requested to have a United States Coast Guard Licensed Captain sign off on the yacht owner’s vessel familiarity and operation before the new boat’s insurance policy goes into effect.

Some insurance companies require a United Coast Guard Licensed Captain on the boat from the point of purchase to home port. I will review the following areas and other to provide sign off. I can provide the training necessary to be approved.

  • Must possess a basic understanding of vessel navigation
  • Must possess crew and guest safety Knowledge
  • Must be able to demonstrate competence in operating the vessel safely in a channel and in close quarter maneuvers
  • Must know where to find and how to use the vessel’s required safety equipment

Common Rules of Engagement

  • Captain for hire services are booked per the day only.
  • I do not charter my boat at this time. I am trained and experienced on multiple boat styles from center consoles to sport fishers.
  • 50% deposit due when confirming/scheduling. The remainder will be due upon completion of services. Preferred payment is cash but accept major credit cards with an additional 3% Fee.
  • Rates are for power vessels only. At this time, I only captain power vessels.
  • All boats over 28ft require one captain and one crew member.
  • The Owner must add a captain to the vessel insurance policy prior to departure. I will provide MMC License and additional information as needed.
  • The Owner will receive an invoice which will include all expenses and report of all events, stops, fuel and more during the voyage.
  • The Owner is responsible for all expenses, including transportation to and from vessel, boat fuel, repairs, dockage, meals and any other expenses while underway or at dock.
  • A full day is 8-10 hours, or until docked.
  • No individual may use illegal drugs at any time.
  • All these rules are subject to change. I will provide updated terms and documents upon engagement.
